Foods that Can Help Children's Brain Development - Every parent would want to have children who are superior and excel at school and outside of school. From now on, pay attention to their daily diet. Nutrition experts recommend that parents choose several types of nutritious foods that can help increase their brain growth. Several types of food are known to support brain development at a growing age, in addition to improving function, memory and concentration. According to Bethany Thayer, a nutritionist from Detroit who is also a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the brain is one of the “very hungry” organs. The brain is the first organ of the body that absorbs nutrients from the food we eat on a daily basis. For this reason, it is important to provide proper nutritional intake to children. This effort will greatly assist the growth and development of their brain function to its maximum.


Here are types of food that experts recommend to help the growth and development of children's brain function:

1. Fish

Experts suggest choosing fish that contain beneficial fatty acids such as salmon. This fish is the best source of omega 3 fatty acids which are important for brain function and growth in children. In fact, several studies also prove, those who like to eat fish containing omega 3 have sharp minds and record good results in mental ability tests.

2. Eggs

This type of food is very easy and cheap, but very nutritious. Eggs are a great source of protein. The egg yolk in it contains choline which is nutritious for helping brain development. Get used to regularly providing a healthy breakfast or dinner with a menu made from eggs.

3. Peanut butter

Nuts are foods rich in vitamin E and antioxidants that can protect brain cell membranes against free radicals, especially macadamia nuts and almonds. For best results, choose peanut butter that is low in sugar and sodium.

4. Colored vegetables

Tomatoes, carrots, spinach or pumpkin are foods rich in antioxidants. These foods are believed to help maintain cell membrane strength and health. The fresher and brighter the color of the vegetables, the higher the antioxidant content. Some vegetables also have cancer-preventing benefits.

5. Oats / Oatmeal

This oat is one of the ingredients contained in cereals that are loved by children. These foods contain carbohydrates which will be gradually absorbed by the child's brain during the learning process at school. Oats are also a good source of vitamins E, B, potassium and zinc which help the body and brain to work optimally.

6. Fruit

Giving Fruits such as strawberries, blueberries and blackberries are rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C. A number of studies have shown that berries can improve memory.

7. Green beans

This food is one that is highly recommended for consumption by children considering its very complete nutrition. Apart from being high in protein and complex carbohydrates, green beans also contain vitamin C, folic acid, iron, zinc, potassium, magnesium, copper, manganese, phosphorus and thiamin, all of which are important for body and brain development.

8. Milk and yogurt

Dairy products including yogurt are foods rich in protein, vitamin D and B vitamins that play an important role in the growth of brain tissue, neurotransmitters and enzymes. Yogurt is a semi-solid food so it is easier to digest in the body's metabolic processes. Recent research also shows that children and adolescents need 10 times more vitamin D than recommended. Vitamin D is useful for maintaining the cell life cycle and nerve and muscle function.
